I am a qualified ecologist with a varied background in flora and fauna surveys, as well as experience in animal behaviour. I currently work at a local council assessing proposed vegetation removal for planning applications. I intend on working towards getting into the conservation detection dog scene on a full-time basis.
In the past I have helped with the Otway Conservation Dog program in a volunteer capacity during an internship with the Conservation Ecology Centre.
I have experience in targeted flora and fauna surveys, habitat hectare assessments (VQA qualified), biodiversity surveys, land management practices including weed control and tree planting, and customer service in the pet retail industry.
Boppa (in training). She is a German shorthaired pointer x border collie. We rescued her at about six months old and she is now three years old.
Boppa is extremely treat motivated and learns new skills quickly with positive reinforcement. She attends weekly obedience classes as well as at-home training on a daily basis. Her recall has improved massively but we’re still working on her desire to chase in some situations. She has not had formal scent detection training as yet but it is the next step, and I feel she is very well suited to the task.
