Miranda Braakhuis (Detection Dogs for Conservation)
Koala (Scats)
Tiger Quoll (Scat)
I’m a detection dog handler, field ecologist and researcher with the Detection Dogs for Conservation team at University of the Sunshine Coast. I have experience conducting koala and quoll scat surveys across QLD and NSW. I also have over 4 years experience as an ecologist conducting threatened flora and fauna surveys in VIC.
I’m currently studying honours comparing different survey methods to estimate koala density (acoustic arrays vs drones vs line-transects). My passion is forest field ecology and optimising survey methods for threatened species conservation. I hope to train a dog on greater glider scat in the near future, and would love to work with frogs and dogs.
Austin is a ball-obsessed border collie x who is trained on koala scat and tiger quoll scat.
Billie-Jean is a very hardworking koolie x who is trained on fresh koala scat.
